I am the wife of a blogger, I help my husband
Joe promote his blog The Joe Review ( HYPERLINK “http://thejoereview.com/” http://thejoereview.com/).
Simple Tips To Help You Promote Your Site
When my husband first told he was starting a blog, I was taken back a little. I thought to myself, how are you going to have people come and read what you have to say? What are you going to write about? Tons of things ran through my mind but I wanted to support him, and that is what I’ve been doing ever since he started.
Joe my husband started his blog (http://thejoereview.com/) back in September of 2008, and his blog has gained great momentum. He writes tech reviews, brew reviews and iPhone application reviews. We have met tons of great people, and companies in the process of promoting his blog. I want to share with you some simple tips that have helped us make his blog relatively successful.
Whether you have a site or blog that you want to draw traffic to, people aren’t going to know about it unless you tell them about it. You need to be socially active and there is no way to better do this then through social networks. Picture yourself at a work dinner party you want to go around the room and make yourself known; so you greet people, start up and join in conversations. This is the way you have to think about social networks. You can join all the social networks in the world, but if you don’t introduce yourself, the purpose of joining these networks is pointless. In interacting with people make sure you are always yourself, and don’t over promote yourself. The best tip I can give is to find people that have the same interests as you. Make sure you also visit your followers blogs/sites frequently, and comment. You need to support each other. Help each other with tips, suggestions, and leads.
Twitter is the one network we use frequently. Twitter is starting to be widely known, lots of bloggers use it, and now there are companies on there as well. Put your Twitter badge on your site/blog so you can let others know you are on Twitter. One benefit of using Twitter for us, was that we got to meet people from different countries, and this helped get our site out to different parts of the world.
And the most important rule to follow is to write about things that interest you. I know you’ve probably heard that before; but you can definitely tell when the writer has put thought into the piece they have written. You need to draw the reader in, and keep their attention by using your own examples and life experiences. Readers can feel your emotions in your post. Make sure your posts are kept short, and to the point. The longer the post, the less the reader will take interest in spending their time reading it. Have fun in the process, there will be up and down days, but remember all your hard work and passion towards promoting your site/blog will pay off in the end. Remember only you can determine how successful your site will be.
Wishing You Tons of Success.
~Betty

Amen! I wish I had used this advice sooner.
Writing stuff which you like makes it all the more easier to blog. I think one should not do for the sake of it, but for the fun of it.
I waited way to long to get on Twitter! I have made more contacts on it that any other social network.
Great tips and Joe has a great site and I’m sure it’s due to both of you.
Great advice! I had never heard the dinner party analogy, great point!
You are great at PR Betty. You draw people to you…

Good advice from a very smart lady…Who just happens to be the love of my life.
Hi Betty,
Another great post. I can hardly keep up. You do have a knack for writing. I look forward to your next post.
I also love Joe’s post. I love tech stuff. He makes me envy those even more that have iPhones. “Verizon will you please get the iPhone” LOL.
I use ALL of the above ways to help promote my blog! And trust me betty is right about them all. It is neat to think I started talking to Betty during my bed rest when I was pregnant with my son, when the joe review was BRAND new and I was still blogging at my old blog, Lovin The Belly. Since then we both have came SSSSSSSOOOOOO far with our blogs and blogging PR knowledge! And it’s all thanks to networking! MOSTLY Twitter! This was a great post with awesome information! Yay Betty! She is one amazing woman! I do have ONE extra tip! Remember you get what you give! Betty and I have became friends over the last 7 months and one of the things that we do is work together to promote each other. Share hints and tips like this we find. For instance I helped her with pitching for getting successful reviews, and she made my twitter background. I recommend every one pick a buddy, then tweet, blog and promote each other! Also always be friendly with ANYBODY that reaches out, you never know how they will be able to help you!

Erin,
We have had a great adventure together, I have relied on you tons. Thank you for everything you do. This lady is one you can also turn to for support and questions. She is also an html pro.
And Laura,
I appreciate the opportunity you have given me in writing this post. I had tons of fun. I always enjoy coming to your site, you have tons of educational links. Thanks!
I have a question for you pal. How do I get the twitter badge on my blog? Also, I’m not really happy with the social networking link badge I chose. is there a site I can go to to find a better one?
Let me know … Sonja
Sonja,
You would need to select a twitter badge you want to use for example here:
http://www.twitterbuttons.com/
once you select the one you want to use, you copy & paste the code in your dashboard on wordpress->apperence-> editor-> then select where you want to put it, in your sidebar, footer etc.
What social networking link badge? I don’t see one on your blog?
You can also design your own using a paint program & flickr or photobucket. Hope this helps, let me know.
