It sound obvious but the fist thing you have to do is stand out. But that is not the only important thing. It’s great if people notice your exhibition and stop, but if it doens’t convert into business it is a waste of time. You need to appeal to your potential customers and think about how you can hook them in once you have their initial attention.

Checking out what your competition is doing can work wonders for improving your own experience and effectiveness at trade shows. You can see what works for your competitors and then improve upon that yourself.

These days it really is difficult to stand out at the larger trade shows. Companies realize that if they really stand out (and go all out) then they can get noticed not just from attendees, but also from bloggers, twitterers, facebookers, and more. A good trade show exhibit can be a mini-viral campaign in itself. Sure…definitely start out small, but consider doing something unique so you aren’t forgotten.

I went to ComicCon 2009 and the stands and booths that I automatically gravitated towards were booths with good signage and cool interactive displays.

The actual event tents need to stand out in order to attract customers IMO.

The company I work for is using video much more these days, not only in presentations for clients but also in presenting and showcasing their services. I think video is a great way to grab attention of visitors to trade shows and similar events.

I agree that signage, banner stands and video really help your trade show effectiveness…

oh yeah and somebody hot working the booth never helps either…
