Mexican Sweet Bread Recipe “Conchas”

Submitted by whateverebay on March 5, 2009 – 6:16 pm26 Comments

My kids and I have had the flu. They are better now and now I am dealing with a head cold. We craved Mexican food and wanted to make something traditional. Sure, I know how to cook, but my cooking does not compare to my Mom’s traditional Mexican recipes.

My Mom is not around anymore so I have to hit the books for a recipe. But they never taste the same. Since moving to Las Vegas (we live in the City of Henderson) we do not have access to traditional Latin Food Markets. The closes we come to it in this part of town is the International Food Section.

Anyhow, I turned to YouTube to search for a recipe for Pambazos. I had no idea it was an actual dish. LOL  Someone made them for me many years ago, he called them Pambazos, but I figured it had to be an Original. I guess Not.

In my search I came across Tina a Mom, a Cook and Married to a Mexican. She has a blog and a YouTube Channel where she shares original family Mexican recipes. She captures your attention with her fun and energetic style. Not to mention on how funny at times her attempt to pronounce some words is.

Tina and her husband work together to launch the videos on YouTube and enter them in their blog. There are so many of you doing wonders with your blog; it would be GREAT if you visit her site and offered some advice.  I welcome your comments here too.

I think that she can really learn to have twice more fun with her blog.

Today, I selected a favorite of mine. Pan Dulce “Conchas”. I had no idea how to make them. I knew the Japenese bakery on my block made the best. Oh this is funny…..

As a kid I thought it was a Japanese bread, since the owner was Japanese, not ’till my teen years did I get to know that his family was born and raised in Mexico and he migrated to the U.S. with his wife to open a Mexican Bakery. LOL =)

Note: Many Japense stayed in Jalisco, Mexico after WWI.

Here is the video Tina – “Conchas”
