Is eBay Confused?

Submitted by whateverebay on February 7, 2009 – 4:26 am6 Comments

Auction Bytes has an interesting post. If you recall eBay has removed the option to pay with Checks on their site. They informed sellers NOT to accept Checks or Money Orders only Paypal (Considering, they had not approved any other payment method).

eBay does NOT allow sellers to accept Checks or Money Orders. Here is a story of a seller that complies with the Policy of No Checks.

A buyer emails the seller to inform them that they have NO Paypal account and must mail them a check. The Seller informs the buyer he cannot accept a Check as form of payment.

Note: eBay responded to the SELLER not the Buyer

Buyer Complains to eBay that Seller will NOT accept Check for payment.

eBay response:

If you’re still unable to reach the seller by email or by phone after a reasonable amount of time, we encourage you to leave appropriate Feedback. This will alert other bidders about your experience. Here’s how to leave Feedback,…

Are you kidding me?? eBay’s representative for one, sent the email to the wrong party. Secondly, to encourage the BUYER to “leave appropriate Feedback”. Why? The seller is following eBay’s Policy. Scenarios like this are not uncommon. If you recall back in October, I shared with a story about Ben an online seller that had a bad experience with eBay and Paypal. eBay sent his buyers a damaging email. You can review the posting eBay & Paypal crush seller.

Have you had any similar experiences such as this? What are your thoughts on eBay and their NO Policy to Stand behind their Policies?

Wow… If any of you are Ebay affiliates, then you’ve already seen this kind of CRAP! I see it’s not only affiliate related.

Ebay, in my opinion, is on a downward spiral unless there are some management changes.. Their customer service, along with what seems to be constant reporting issues to their affiliates, has gotten to be quite ridiculous!

In one manner I hate to complain since Ebay is a nice little source of income for me, but seriously!

In your opinion Laura, what do they need to do?

Ever since my sister had used eBay and got kinda screwed. I haven’t touch it at all. In fact the items I list there wouldn’t sell, the market in ebay was sporadic and hard to study; I was better off making my own eCommerce Site. I am hoping people would go off to an independent route.

Yikes! That is scary! Doesn’t sound like they are very organized :(

@ Jake – What always strikes a nerve is the lack of customer service and loyalty. As far as I am concerned they have not earned my business. Amazon takes the cake. Granted some CSR are not always helpful but at least I am not ignored. eBay in my opinion needs to do some serious PR with sellers and affiliates. eBay should do better not just recover. Many mistakes have been made and its time they wise up :)

@ Anraiki – I have heard many other sellers have the same experience. The fees are stacking up and no sales makes it very hard to do business with them. Of course the lack of Customer Service damaging. Ideally, I would like to see all eBay sellers or sellers have their own website. With so many options and payment services out there, they can venture out.

@ Betty – eBay has gone off track. I know that they can get back on track but they must do some serious PR. With so many alternatives now, sellers do have an option. :)
