Deciding What to Sell Online

Submitted by whateverebay on January 15, 2009 – 6:40 pm9 Comments

Deciding what to sell is always challenging. There is a reason why I recommend that you start with the items you have at home. For one, it cost you no additional upfront investment. If the items are stored away and you have no intention of enjoying them; then it would make sense to donate them right…. Well, donate them to a better cause. YOU. Invest them in yourself.

When selling online eBay comes to mind. They have branded themselves and many sellers have admitted their found success using eBay.

Here is another example for you. Then a kid Sean Belnick he had an idea (if you have red Napoleon Hill’s book “Think and Grow Rich” this example will make sense) and the desire to make it work.

You can read the story INC did on Sean Blenick HERE

I will let him do the explaining:

I have many to share with you. Think about why he succeeded. Place some thought into it. Sean Belnick’s story is not much different from many other successful sellers. They all have something in common.

I will explain further and provide you more examples. Sales have picked up significantly and it is consuming my time. Helping you is my priority, again, you can email me or contact me via phone. All your ideas, stories and questions all welcomed. :)

Selling has never really crossed my mind, until now. Thanks so much for your useful information on this very subject. I now may actually be able to venture into that market.

The video wasn’t working anymore. :(
But I did read & look through all the links. Thanks for all the great posts on this subject.

Feels like you read my mind, I have been thinking & thinking about this ever since I asked you about it a few days ago. I just don’t even know where to start. I would really enjoy finding something success of course (I know we all do). I want the ability to be able to work from home. That would be great! Be able to see my son more.

I am just stumped don’t know where to even start. What sort of items from home, just anything? I’ve heard people say that anything can be sold on ebay, is that true? Would it be ok to sell used or just new things?

I’m just confused as you can see. Do you go through a company that holds the merchandise and ships it for you? or what? I just don’t know. LOL! I am so sorry for being such a bother. lol :)

@ Robin Green – That is great! If you have any questions, I am always here to help. Have fun and much success

@Betty – The video should be working now. That’s right, anything you have in the home. Find some thing in your home you are wiling to let go. Go to eBay or Google. Search for it and see if they have sold in the past and for how much.

Of course, you want to see for what it is currently going for now. You can sell anything you wish; as long it not stolen, your family or body organs. You would be surprised what people have listed on eBay for sale. lol

You can also use a drop shipper. You can check out this link on my site http://whateverebay.com/category/what-to-sell

Hope you find this useful. :)

Wow this looks like a VERY informative site!
I’ve sold only a handful of items on ebay and for the first time, my item didnt sell! I had a lot of people watching it but no bidders.

I guess I’ll relist it, but are there any strategies for relisting an item that didn’t sell? My first thought would be that buyers are willing to pay even less now that they’ve seen it didn’t sell the first time.

    Thanks, and again, GREAT BLOG!

    T

Ok I’m going to try that. :)

This is pretty neat. I just read the Inc story on the Frind guy who now makes millions by creating plentyoffish.com. This also reminds me of the book, “The 4 Hour Work Week.”

My husband and I came up with a website idea this week. Now we are just thinking about a company name to be an umbrella company for all the sites we want to create to make money.

  • whateverebay says:

@ T Edwards – Relisting the item is all about strategy. Check on your competitors and on recent sales of the item. You may try new images, change the description. I usually will relist the item for the same price (if I know it has sold before) and I have watchers. Or I can increase the price if I have more than 5 watchers. It is always best to check the comps and past sales. If on eBay visit Advance Search

    @ Betty – Great!

@ Amanda – markus Frind has an inspirational story. I have just posted about him and I have others I will be posting about. Its always a great idea to start with something you have an interest in. I have “The 4 hour work week” book, I have yet to read it. :)

Creating that umbrella is critical. Just knowing that you have that done, is the makings of a solid business plan. Much success and thank you for visiting :)

  • T Edwards says:

Great advice and I’ll definitely follow up.

    Thanks so much!
