Overstock.com Announces Introduction of O.CO Domain Name

Overstock.com, Inc. (Nasdaq: OSTK) today announced the introduction of the domain name O.CO as a shortcut for its Overstock.com website. The company purchased the domain name from .CO Internet S.A.S, the official .CO domain registry in July 2010. During the initial introduction period, consumers who shop O.CO will receive free shipping on their entire order. To learn more visit www.o.co.

The introduction of O.CO highlights Overstock.com’s growth into a globally recognized brand that is synonymous with the ‘O’ and is a natural transition of the company’s brand to a universally understandable and relevant domain.  The O.CO web site will carry all of the same products, award winning customer service, and have the same customized shopping features as the Overstock.com web site.

“Over the eleven years we’ve been in business we’ve evolved into a savings engine for shoppers. We have become O.CO,” said Overstock.com Chairman and CEO Patrick Byrne.  “As a lifestyle destination, consumers can find absolutely anything on O.CO whether they are shopping for furniture, bedding, clothing, and jewelry, buying a car or home, and, soon, looking for their next vacation spot.”

In line with the company’s dedication to be a savings engine and global online presence, Overstock.com remains committed to giving back to local communities and around the world.  In the U.S., Overstock.com has a history of social enterprise and entrepreneurship. In 2009, it partnered with the Wounded Warrior Project and raised more than $250,000 for U.S. veterans.  In response to the current economic recession, Overstock.com launched the Main Street Revolution initiative, a national marketing and distribution channel for small business owners, providing the opportunity to sell their products on the site. Globally, over the last 11 years, it has created employment opportunities and donated more than $60 million to approximately 10,000 artisans in more than 52 countries around the world through its Worldstock Fair Trade initiative.

“Overstock’s purchase of O.CO prior to the domain’s public launch was an investment in its future and it speaks to the confidence that Overstock’s executives had in the credibility and marketability of the .CO domain,” said Juan Diego Calle, CEO of .CO Internet. “Overstock’s early confidence in the .CO domain helped to inspire a lot of interest and excitement for the launch, and has contributed to the more than 600,000 .CO domain names that have been registered by people in 200 countries.”

Avoid Pitfalls of Leading Auction and Shopping Sites with 7four

The two most popular online eCommerce websites, Craigslist and eBay, have their strengths – but also weaknesses. As an antidote to those shortcomings, 7four has emerged as a new way to buy, sell and trade online.

7four is an online marketplace resource that stresses the recycling of products for trade while also providing an opportunity to sell and buy goods. It’s free to browse, free to join as a member and virtually free to post items. The colorful, cheerful graphics on the site support its mission to provide an enjoyable eCommerce environment. There are no “hiccups” or hidden charges in using 7four – it’s purposefully straightforward and upfront in its approach.

“In developing 7four, I’ve addressed all the pitfalls and inconveniences that other auction and shopping sites present, and the result is a much more vibrant, efficient and cost-effective portal,” says Lawrence Smith, 7four’s founder. “From the visual design to the technical aspects of how 7four operates, from posting to searching to the point of transaction – everything is seamless, user-friendly and super-simple. I’ve also worked hard to guarantee a no-gimmick eCommerce atmosphere and include special incentives to excite and motivate people to use 7four.”

7four shares some features with eBay and Craigslist – notably, the site prohibits adult ads, it’s free to post many types of advertisements, and there are member services and a blog. However, a few key differentiators on 7four.com include:

  • a one-time $5 fee for automobiles for a 30-day posting period;
  • no fees or upcharges on all other items for either posting or selling;
  • payment choices, including PayPal or e-mailing the seller directly to make arrangements;
  • rewards for those posting automobile ads, whereby at every 100,000th post, the seller receives $1,000 as an incentive for posting on the site;
  • greater attention to the user’s online experience, enhanced with colorful, dynamic graphics carefully balanced with a clutter- and commercial-free website.

Walmart Marketplace

walmart-marketplaceWalmart now has its own Marketplace open to select e-Commerce stores. Its no surprise they have CSN Stores, eBags, and ProTeam. With the large selection and I mean larege selection CSN stores offers over 1 Million products alone; Walmart will be able to provide the consumers with the variety they want. This will make it hard for small eTailers to compete. I currently offer 2,500 items on my sites and currently working in offering more. However, the average online seller offers around 50 items.

So, how can we compete? Simple, offer top service, hassle free Returns and offer variety. Keep up with the Social Media trends; you want to brand (product) yourself. Stay informed – this quarter is faced with many changes from several marketplaces and product search engines. Here is a video from CNBC on the announcement made by Walmart.

CSN Stores is already the 3rd largest online store making $200 Million a year in Sales (yes, even in this slow economy). Now with their new partnership with Walmart I can see them double that. Do you think eBay has met its rival? Will the prices offered from the “selected sellers” be better than what they offer in their sites or even offer on eBay? We will see………

Google Marketplace Policies Changes

Google Marketplace Changes to take effect on December 1st, 2009. Google announced New Policies for Marketplaces & Aggregators on Google Product Search.  Google will introduce multi-client accounts to help marketplaces manage (control) feeds for multiple sellers under a single account.

….The multi-client accounts allow aggregators and marketplaces to consolidate and manage data feeds and reporting for sub-accounts, submit changes more rapidly, and get more accurate Google Checkout badging at the seller level……..individual sellers on marketplaces no longer need to submit a feed to Google Product Search.
